God rejoices over you!

Think of it — God rejoicing over you! In the Bible in Zephaniah it says in part, The Lord thy God in the midst of you is mighty; he will save — it goes on to say, With his love he will calm your fears — and then it ends with this happy thought, He will rejoice over you with singing.

Most of us wouldn’t readily take that to heart — but why not? God, our Father and Mother, our best Friend is rejoicing over us — why can’t we rejoice over ourselves? Well, because we think of ourselves differently than the creator who made us. We think of ourselves as frail, limited, failing mortals. But this is a false sense of ourselves and we don’t need to hang onto it. God who is Love itself, sees us as spiritual ideas, expressions of Him or Her, perfect, forever complete, innocent, full of life — the life that He gives us to express.

Our role is acceptance. Accept how good and wonderful and beautiful and intelligent you are. This is a great way of glorifying God — not yourself, but God — because you are His expression.

Life is rejoicing over you with singing. Love is rejoicing over you with singing. Soul is rejoicing over you with singing.

Together let’s let God be glorified today by accepting our innate goodness. Think of God, almighty, all loving God as rejoicing over you today.

    Hey Mark,
Thanks for all the great ideas you post at this site. What you say here makes a lot of sense to me. But do you have any thoughts about how to share these ideas with someone coming from a traditional Christian background? It seems like their doctrine is at odds with this view. Doesn’t their belief that we are all miserable sinners preclude the possibility of accepting anyone as perfect, forever complete, innocent, and full of life? And the majority of the book of Zephaniah talks about how disappointed, angry and upset God is with the behavior of his children. What should we think about that?
    Thanks for your thoughts.

  2. Hi there –
I know what you mean about traditional Christian thought about us as sinners which precludes thinking about ourselves as so blessed and loved. BUT, because we are in fact God’s reflection, His image and perfect like Him, people love to hear this truth that they inherently know and in many cases are eager to hear that they are loved children of God rather than miserable sinners. Being sinners just doesn’t ring true for so many, which is one reason I think so many people are leaving the traditional teachings and churches.

Mary Baker Eddy’s writings help us to understand the spiritual, deeper meaning of the Bible. The old Testament to a great extent speaks about God as a humanly mighty king or ruler, ruling over His people. But there are also clear glimpses of the true all loving God that is Spirit and spiritual that come through in places.

For example in the book of Habakkuk an inspired writer wrote, speaking of God: ‘Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity:. . .”

So from that we realize that God does not know evil, because if He did He would have had to have made it since He or She is the only creator. It is much like the sun knows nothing about darkness and darkness isn’t a real power but merely the absence of light. Evil is the supposed absence of God but the allness and ever-presence of God destroys the evil in the same way light destroys darkness. The people in the old testament interpret that as God getting angry with His children.

This loving God is with us and destroys any evil that tries to attach itself to us but never gets angry with His creation. His love does not destroy us but purifies us and lifts us higher.

Here is something that Mrs. Eddy wrote in her book Science and Health

    page: 519:3

Deity was satisfied with His work. How could He be otherwise, since the spiritual creation was the outgrowth, the emanation, of His infinite self-containment and immortal wisdom?

    Best,
    Mark
