Prayer can help in Egypt
Some feel there is nothing we can do but just wait it out and see what happens in Egypt. But our prayers can truly help quell the violence erupting there — help to bring intelligence and wisdom and peace to this volatile situation.
Where do we start? How about instead of starting with the problem and trying to figure it out, we start our thought and prayer process with God and reason from there. This is something I have learned from studying and practicing Christian Science, and I have seen great results on an individual basis.
The Science of astronomy explains that what we see with our eyes is not what is real. We see the sun moving across the sky, and yet the sun is not moving at all, but rather the earth is spinning. Based on the Science of Life, Christ Jesus showed how life and harmony and goodness were present right where sin, disease and death appeared to be.
One of the greatest things we learn from this spiritual Science, or Christian Science, is how to follow the first commandment and have only one God, one Mind, and what exactly that means.
Mary Baker Eddy the founder of Christian Science writes in its textbook,, “The first demand of this Science is, ‘Thou shalt have no other gods before me.’ This me is Spirit. Therefore the command means this: Thou shalt have no intelligence, no life, no substance, no truth, no love, but that which is spiritual.” (SH 467:3-7 The)
God’s power, presence and peace are right where chaos and violence appear to be ruling the day. This can be our prayer, to know that God is present, all-present and that His peace, His wisdom, His goodness rules the day over the evil that appears to be. It is more natural for us to see God’s goodness spring forth than to see chaos rule.
We can meditate on the prophet Isaiah’s spiritual view of the inevitability and naturalness of God’s goodness breaking forth on the human scene, “For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.” (Isa. 61:11)
Let’s together have one God and keep that picture before our thought as these other pictures are constantly being flashed before us.
